Nuit de Bakélite by perfumer Isabelle Doyen is an interpretation of the nocturnal flower tuberose. It hints the premise (seed) of a narcotic lady ..... Green, obsessive & addictive.

"Tuberose sap, peeled tuberose, tuberose in a cage made of green and leather, a focus on the small peduncle that connects the flower to the stem, the sound of plastic when several stalks of tuberose tangle, the wild majesty of the Persian tuberose." – Isabelle Doyen.

What is this alchemy?

I love Naomi Goodsir. The folks she gets to develop her fragrances are creative and innovative, and not afraid to make challenging scents! Nuit de Bakelite Is no exception. A perfectly green scent with tuberose in its dark heart. But there are also whiffs of earth, spice, and plastic. It’s a slightly assaulting fragrance, but that’s part of what I love about it. It takes no prisoners. The dry down is beautiful and you get more of the rich earthy florals and some leatheriness. it’s not for the faint of heart. And it’s gorgeous.

Nuclear tuberose

An alien tuberose from a distant planet, dressed in suede and cellophane. It is fluorescently green, with bitter, aromatic top notes that soften into a powdery white floral that is surprisingly approachable given its synthetic namesake, but nevertheless set at an unsettling volume. Nuit de Bakélite smells clinically free of dirt but has a pungent, chemical edge. This is a campy take on tuberose that hints at a domesticated, simmering radioactivity under its surface-more like a cabinet of uranium-glazed Fiestaware than a bomb. Scary but beautiful, and unquestionably impressive.

a flirty, escapist punch in the face

Nuit de Bakelite's sillage rocket-launches tuberose to the ends of the room. It's so intense at first you can't help but laugh, but don't worry, it's softens! Then you get introduced to the greenery, the 80s plastic accessories, the leather pants, the strong opinions, and someone with big hair is smacking their gum while a haunting record plays in the background. NDB brings a mischievous spring to your step. It's weird as hell, it's delightfully escapist, it's clever, and it's unexpectedly wearable if you're down to embody it. Smell this once or twice and you'll remember it distinctly, forever. This is what people mean when they talk about perfume as an artform.

Florals in a tire shop

This made me gag. I could not shower fast enough. When the rubber smell dissipates you're left with cloying 80s potpourri florals. Glad I sampled first.

If you’re not a fan of really strong pepper, don’t buy this. I sprayed it once and I can still smell it in my house 1 week later.
