Sirenide
Regular price $ 175.00Based on a reimagined version of the Scottish myth of the Selkies, Sirenide opens with a sting of poison rendered in bitter almond and aniseed, which anoints a second skin of iris, aquatic florals and a plastic-pinseal accord. The irresistible pull of briny-sweet ambergris drags the florals and almond with it into the depths, creating an indelible drydown that (literally) causes passerbys to stop in their tracks to ask. Best tried on skin, where it belongs.
From Beaufort
Orkney, an archipelago located to the north of Scotland, plays host to the inspiration of this fragrance. According to ancient Orkney myth, shapeshifting creatures – Selkies – inhabit the bodies of seals and, coming out of the water, shed their skin to walk among the human population. Often in these stories the selkie’s skin is found and hidden by local men, and they are forced to marry their human captor.
In our rendering of this tale, however, the selkie takes the upper hand… horrified that he has tanned her precious skin, the selkie poisons her captor, reclaiming the leather and returning finally to the tumbling sea.
Sirenide Eau de Parfum therefore, is a suitably formidable fragrance: powerful and haunting, with triplicate aspects of ‘skins’ developing on your own. PVC melds with pinseal and an unnerving bitter almond note… water flowers blossom and die, returning to the water.

This perfume is beyond definition, I believe. If you have spent time around the ocean, it will make more sense than it would to those with no ocean going experience. Beaufort’s The Gruge is the same in that you can’t truly appreciate it unless you have spent a good amount of time on the ocean. It’s subtle and haunting, almost yearning. The first note that comes to me is leather and I’m guessing that’s the Pin-seal note they’ve added. Then it smells sort of almondy. Somewhere from deep inside I recognize the Florentine Iris and it is exquisite in this. It’s not a true marine scent, but it suggests it to me personally. I look forward to seeing other people’s reviews of this perfume because it’s so hard to describe especially because I love it and often we are blind to the exact nature of what we love….
I have found my forever perfume in Sirenide. My son wears The Grudge & I adore it, but it’s too masculine for me. I was delighted to discover.Sirenide… When I spread it on, I’m met with the softest suede note, and then it just slowly blooms. I can’t remember all the notes that are in it but to me it is beautiful symphony of the sea meeting the land. I have actually purchased a full-size bottle of this for the first time since my perfume exploration began a year ago. I would say that this lean slightly more to the feminine, although a man certainly could wear it and wear it well. I have many favorite floral fragrances and fragrancesof diffent types. I don’t know how to define this exactly, but this is my absolute favorite and I feel so lucky that I managed to get a bottle before it sold out!
