Launched in 2008 by the rigorously avant garde "scent artist" Alessandro Gualtieri, Nasomatto (the mad nose) played a defining role in the emergence of niche perfume. The brand drew attention with compositions that bucked the trends Gaultieri had been asked to meet during his time as a traditional fragrance house perfumer, where he never quite felt he fit in.
The now-iconic Nasomatto collection, with its unforgettably artful packaging designs, was followed by a second brand, Orto Parisi, inspired by the the bodily and bawdy smells of life and memories of the perfumer's youth spent on his grandfather Vincenzo's farm in Italy.
