Louis Sherry is one of the oldest candy companies in the US, and is the oldest boxed chocolate brand. Louis Sherry founded the company in 1881 in New York, selling his memorable filled chocolate confections in exquisite tins that are still sought after by collectors. According to the Oxford Companion to Sugar and Sweets, Louis Sherry introduced the concept of chocolates as a luxury gift. 140-odd years later, the 1890’s recipes remain unchanged. The ingredients sourced to flavor the fillings have evolved with time but some, like rum, remain exactly as they were in Sherry’s day. Every single Louis Sherry chocolate is entirely handmade and hand packaged in an iconic Louis Sherry tin, which is cast from the original molds.

The tins have their own place in history. In the film “Rosemary’s Baby,” you see Mia Farrow store that notorious necklace in a Louis Sherry box.  According to Tim Tippin, the President of Louis Sherry, F. Scott Fitzgerald kept pencils in one of Sherry's boxes on his desk while writing “The Great Gatsby.” The tins have also been known to be used to store love letters, a secret stash of cigarettes, and even a revolver.
